Case Study

Outstanding early music vocal ensemble The Clerks came to Julia in December 2007 wishing to find funding to enable them to try out new creative ideas, expand their participation work and increase their concert activity. Julia helped them write a business plan, secured £52,000 in funding for an ambitious strategic programme Raising Voices, and is evaluating the programme. In addition, to support future work, Julia is currently helping The Clerks develop their board of trustees and raise funds from individuals.

Previous Experience

Julia has seventeen years’ experience in arts management and funding. Prior to launching her consultancy in December 2007, Julia was Funding Development Manager for Orchestras Live, where she helped steer the organisation through a major change process, was central in developing key business planning tools and raised £1.3 million from National Lottery sources, trusts and companies, funding a diverse range of projects and core needs. As Head of Marketing and Development for the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Julia increased net yield on own-promotion ticket sales by 19%, designed and implemented a new corporate identity and secured funding. As Development Officer for the London Philharmonic Orchestra, she increased high-level individual giving from £10K to £80K p.a. and raised funds from trusts and lottery sources.
